According to a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine, people with coronary artery disease who had positive expectations about their recovery were in better physical shape after one year and actually outlived those who expressed a more negative view.
The study said that one possible reason the optimists do better is because they may be more willing to follow a treatment plan or put more effort into recovering. The pessimists’ negative attitude, on the other hand, may create more stress and tension, which can hamper recovery.
